A major redevelopment of the Chartman Group’s Winning Post Service Station reported by Forecourt Trader across three issues (see page 21) has finally opened its doors following a gruelling construction period marred by heavy rain. The company had waited seven years to carry out the development on the A38 near Exeter having first bought the forecourt business in 2007, with a view to carrying out a substantial expansion.
The timber-framed Spar forecourt store has quadrupled in size to 2,000sq ft and features a ’starting gate’ layout across the whole of the front of the building. The store offers an extensive food-to-go section in association with Country Choice, enhanced with a striking backdrop of the Winning Post on a racecourse. Chartman’s looked at some of the best sites in the fuel industry at home and abroad for inspiration in order to create a legacy for the company.
