Moshin and Zuber Issa of Top 50 Indie group Euro Garages, took top honours at last night’s prestigious Forecourt Trader of the Year Awards, in front of a packed audience in the glamorous surroundings of the London Hilton Hotel in Park Lane.
Hosted by top celebrity impressionist Jon Culshaw, the sell-out annual event was attended by nearly 700 guests, including some of the country’s best retailers, as well as oil company executives and major industry suppliers.
It was the second time the group has been awarded the much sought-after trophy. The first was in 2011, with its Beehive Service Station in Blackburn. This time it was the group’s Calder Park Service Station in Wakefield which edged ahead of a very competitive field.
The site was described as having the ‘wow’ factor by chairman of the judges and editor of Forecourt Trader magazine Merril Boulton. “It’s a new development featuring a fabulous BP forecourt, standalone Starbucks outlet, impressive Spar store with a Subway offer, and much else besides,” she said. “But what sets the Calder Park Service Station apart from the rest, is its consistent high standards of operation, as is evident throughout the Euro Garages network.”
Other successes saw father and daughter team Brian Tew and Susie Hawkins taking the Palmer & Harvey Retailer Champion of the Year Award. They were chosen by the readers of Forecourt Trader via an online voting system.
