Flying Squad detectives have launched an investigation after a cashpoint was blown up on a forecourt in west London.

Police were alerted to the explosion at the BP petrol station in Staines Road, Bedfont, at about 2am on Wednesday September 7.

The explosion ripped open the ATM, and caused damage to the rest of the forecourt and its Londis store.

The perpetrators are believed to have made off with the contents of the ATM before the police arrived.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “At 1.55am on Wednesday, 7 September, police were informed that suspects had exploded an ATM at a petrol station on Staines Road, stealing the contents before fleeing the scene prior to police attendance.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
