A man who robbed an Edinburgh petrol station at knifepoint has been jailed.

Salvatore Sivero went into the Shell forecourt on Glasgow Road last July armed with a knife, demanding cash.

A man working at the garage tried to prevent Sivero stealing the money and, as a result, suffered minor cuts to his hand.

Sivero was previously found guilty of this incident and was sentenced to five years in prison.

The 29-year-old was also given a further three-year sentence to run consecutively for robbing a convenience store.

A police spokesman said: “Lothian and Borders Police is committed to building safer communities by tackling knife crime and robustly dealing with those found to be in possession of a weapon.

“This sentence highlights the combined efforts of Lothian and Borders Police and the Crown Office to bring knife offenders to justice.”
