Two more water companies have been granted drought orders, which will allow them to restrict the operation of car wash facilities.

Southern Water has been given powers to ban non-essential use in parts of Kent and Sussex, while Mid Kent Water has also been granted an order for its entire area. However, both companies have said that they will not immediately impose bans due to the recent spell of wet weather.

Sutton and East Surrey Water’s drought order comes into force this weekend (May 27) and means that only car washes that use recycled water will be able to remain open.
