Top 50 Indie Harry Tuffins has earned a My Shop is Your Shop Gold Award from the Federation of Wholesale Distributors for its work in the local community.
The forecourt operator, which runs eight sites in the northwest of England, is one of 200 convenience retailers to receive the commendation as part of National Independents’ Week, the annual celebration of the contribution to communities made by local shops.
The 200 stores chosen by members of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors for their exceptional contribution to their neighbourhoods have received a certificate, a window sticker, t-shirts and National Independents’ Week pos materials, and more than 50 MPs have so far pledged to visit these shops over the course of the summer.
The winners have also received a copy of The Little Book of Big Ideas, which gives them advice on promoting their business locally and how to win the support of local media as well as leaving a lasting impression on their MP when they visit the store.
FWD chief executive James Bielby said: “Our aim for this year’s My Shop is Your Shop campaign has been to introduce MPs to the great work that local stores do and demonstrate how their value to communities goes far beyond the products they supply.
“With the support of our suppliers and some great initiatives from the retailers, we expect National Independents’ Week to have a significant long-term effect on the way the local shop sector is viewed by our representatives in Westminster, and at the same time remind customers that there are really excellent shops on their doorstep which offer competitive prices on top products as well as unrivalled service.”
