Fire fighters strike alert
The government’s chief fire & rescue adviser, Peter Holland, has written to trade associations, alerting them to the threat of industrial action by firefighters in a dispute over pensions. He said he expected it will be ’business as usual’ for most organisations and 999 calls will continue to be answered, but urged businesses to review their business continuity arrangements and, where appropriate, take the necessary steps to deal with any particular risks.
Illicit fuel plant raided
A 51-year-old man had been arrested and interviewed by HM Revenue & Customs officers after the discovery of a fuel laundering plant in County Down, Northern Ireland. The plant, which is capable of producing around 250,000 litres of illicit fuel a year, was hidden in farm buildings in the Banbridge area.
Diesel stolen from site
Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information after the theft of 6,500 litres of diesel which was siphoned off at Great Ponton Services on the A1 northbound, near Grantham. The incident took place on Friday August 9 between 1.30am and 6am.
Jail for attempted theft
A drug addict who threatened a petrol station attendant at the Esso petrol station in Northam Road, Southampton, with a bottle in an attempted robbery, and assaulted a police officer, has been jailed for 27 months and ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
Robbers attack cashier
A 21-year-old male cashier at a Lincolnshire petrol station suffered head injuries after two robbers attacked him. The robbery occurred at the Ulceby Cross Service Station when two men entered the shop and assaulted the cashier before stealing money from the till.
