Drive-off pair jailed
Two thieves who stole more than £3,000 of diesel from filling stations across Leicestershire, have been jailed. Edgar Beliavskij, who was sentenced to 12 months, and Dzintars Tancis, eight months, filled up 30 times at garages across the county and left without paying.
HMRC raid filling station
A 24-year-old man was arrested after officers from HMRC and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) raided a filling station in the Antrim area. They discovered a van with concealed tanks delivering more than 2,000 litres of suspected illegal fuel.
Licence to be retained
The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has welcomed the Home Office decision not to abolish personal alcohol licences. ACS chief executive James Lowman said: "Personal licences provide a clear national standard of training and competence in supervising alcohol sales. They are also portable allowing individuals to move between premises without undermining the alcohol licence of the business."
Warning over fraudsters
Following an incident at a petrol station police in Scotland are reminding retailers to remain vigilant against fraud attempts. Two men entered a petrol station in the Garioch area of Aberdeenshire, and asked staff to change large denomination notes to smaller ones, with the intention of confusing staff using distraction techniques.
Station gets defibrilator
A heart defibrillator has been installed at a Top 50 Indie site after it helped the local community raise funds for the equipment. It has been installed at the Hazlegrove Service Station and Spar store on the A303 at Sparkford, Somerset, which is open 24 hours a day and is owned by Chartman Group.
