traffic at an all-time high
Road traffic edged slightly higher last year to an all-time high, according to government statistics. Overall mileage for all types of vehicles totalled 328.1bn in 2018, compared with 327.1bn the previous year. The mileage for cars and light commercial vehicles increased to 255bn and 51bn, compared with 254.4bn and 50.5bn, and heavy goods vehicles edged up marginally from 17bn to 17.1bn. Motorcycles and buses/coaches both saw slight declines in their totals.
bp launches fuel & Charge
BP is launching a new Fuel & Charge offer providing one simple solution to keep all vehicle fleets on the move, no matter what their engine type. Due to launch later this summer, the offer provides access to both the BP Plus cross-acceptance network, comprised of over 3,600 fuel sites, and the Polar network, the UK’s largest public charging network, which is made up of over 7,000 EV charging points. Drivers can check the BP Fuel & Charge card app to find the closest available EV charging point or BP forecourt.
eg acquires 69 us sites
Euro Garages parent company EG Group has signed a deal to acquire 69 convenience stores and fuel stations in the US. The sites are owned by family owned Certified Oil and are in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio. The Certified Oil portfolio will bring the EG Group count up to 1,112 c-stores operating across 25 states.
new greenergy boss named
Greenergy has lined up a successor for its chief executive Andrew Owens, who, after nearly 30 years in charge, is to become non-executive chairman. After an 18-month search and selection process, Christian Flach has joined Greenergy, and after an initial transition period he will become chief executive on September 1.
louise hoste heads up spar
Spar UK has appointed Louise Hoste as its new managing director. In November the previous managing director Debbie left to become chief executive of Central England Co-operative. Hoste has a wide range of international retail experience.
