The site has been completely redeveloped

Wholesaler and forecourt operator James Hall & Co has reopened a filling station in Longtown, Cumbria, following a comprehensive redevelopment that saw the site demolished and rebuilt.

The filling station, which sits just three miles south of the Scottish border on the A7, now features three new pump islands sitting on fresh hardstanding underneath a pristine Shell canopy, while the forecourt now features two EV chargers, an AdBlue dispenser, plus air/vac/water machines, parcel lockers and 16 customer parking spaces.

Inside the Spar shop sits a butchers’ counter stocked by award-winning caterer and butchers Graham Eyes, plus a Clayton Park Bakery serve-over deli, a brace of coffee machines serving hot and iced drinks, and freezers stocked with Iceland goods.

The shop is closer to a mini supermarket than a forecourt kiosk

High ceilings, electronic shelf labels, cutting-edge fridges, plus extensive alcohol, fresh food, grocery and car-care lines all feature, while the store benefits from modern LED lights.

Locals queued at the store ahead of its reopening, which was presided over by three members of the Longtown Detachment of the Cumbria Army Cadet Force, which received a donation from Spar to mark the occasion.

Fiona Drummond, company stores director at James Hall & Co comments:

“Longtown residents had long required an improved offer, and the new store will also support the significant passing trade between England and Scotland. It has taken the company a while to bring the vision to a reality, and that reality is light years from what was here before.”
