Jos Richardson & Son Ltd has announced the death of its chairman, Tim Richardson, who passed away suddenly on 10 May.

Tim started working for Jos Richardson & Son Ltd in 1966 aged 17 delivering coal. In 1978 he bought Glews Garage and worked hard to build the business into a thriving motor, fuel and convenience retailer.

The business is now a £50m turnover business with two car dealerships and five filling stations, employing more than 110 people locally.

In 2004 he was joined in the business by his son Joseph and in 2011 by his daughter Jane, the fifth generation of the family to work in the business.

As well as contributing to the local business economy he has played an active role in his local community. He was chairman of local regeneration partnership Boothferry Enterprise 2000, a member of the Chamber of Commerce serving as President in Goole and a Director in Hull and he a valued member of the Goole Rotary Club, of which he was a past President.

In 2013 he stepped down as managing director of his family business and handed the reins over to Joseph. He was still involved in the business as chairman. In 2014 he won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Goole and Howdenshire Business Awards for his contribution to business.

He will be sorely missed by his family, employees past and present and the business community.
