A man has been taken to hospital in Inverness, Scotland, with serious injuries following a crash involving a petrol tanker.

Officers from the Highlands and Islands Division of Police Scotland are appealing for information following a two vehicle collision which occurred on the A9 at Poles, near Dornoch.

The collision occurred at around 10.35pm on Friday 17 January 2014, and involved a southbound petrol tanker and a northbound Ford Transit van.

As a result of the collision, the male driver of the Ford Transit van was trapped in his vehicle and had to be cut free by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. He was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The A9 was closed while officers from North Divisional Road Policing Unit carried out enquiries. Local diversions were put in place.
