Police had to evacuate a Morrisons petrol forecourt and adjacent McDonalds restaurant in Yeovil, Somerset, after a car crashed into a trolley of liquefied petroleum gas bottles.

Police and the fire service attended the incident, which occurred at about 11.30pm on February 9.

Two fire appliances and a rescue tender from Yeovil and one fire appliance with a gas detector from Taunton attended, and fire crews requested a third fire appliance from Sherborne, Dorset, for additional crew power.

The police and fire service set up a cordon as there was a slight smell of gas in the area, and police located a keyholder for the liquefied petroleum gas bottle cage.

Fire crews used six breathing apparatus wearers to inspect the cylinders for damage using a gas detector and a thermal image camera. Crews also stood by with firefighting media as a precaution.

Fire crews confirmed the gas bottles were safe and left the incident in the hands of police.
