The 59 BP & Safeway Partnership sites are poised to start offering customers Nectar points on fuel.

The joint-venture sites were initially excluded from the promotion at launch in November last year due to a conflict in interests with Sainsbury’s involvement in Nectar. But flagging fuel sales on the BP & Safeway Partnership sites has prompted Safeway to rethink its position.

A date to begin the promotion is yet to be agreed, but is thought to be imminent. BP is evidently delighted to now be able to offer Nectar points on its joint-venture sites.

“BP has always understood Safeway’s position [with Nectar] and accepted it,” said a BP spokesman.

“But we’re happy to now have a uniform offer on all sites where there is the BP brand.”
