WELCOME BREAK has invested £1m in its toilet facilities at the Gordano Service Area on the M5. Redevelopment work saw the existing 25-year-old toilet block replaced by 38 state-of-the-art toilets, four shower cubicles and a baby changing area. The facilities are manned to ensure standards are maintained at all times. The Bristol site is one of the busiest in the Welcome Break chain.

RETAILERS need to offer incentives to attract more people to the industry, says the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). The CMI’s National Management Salary survey found that retailers are struggling to hold onto their employees despite the frequency and value of bonus payments.

RETAIL OUTLETS are still seen as ‘soft targets’ by many criminals, according to business insurers AXA. The company says most retail crimes are opportunitistic so retailers need to be more vigilant and do as much to protect themselves as possible.

TWENTY FIVE Mace stores have now signed up with Spar in Scotland, including two forecourts: one in rural Perthshire and one in West Hills, Aberdeen. The move follows the closure of Aberness Foods. Spar’s regional distribution centre in Scotland, CJ Lang, has committed additional resources to ensure that all 25 stores will be trading under the Spar fascia by July 25.
