Girl killed on forecourt
A teenage girl has died after she was hit by a car while filling up at a petrol station. Police Scotland said Eilish Herron, from Paisley, was on the forecourt of the Asda garage in Linwood, Renfrewshire, when the crash happened on September 9 at 2.30pm.
Esso issues apology
Esso has apologised to customers at the Tesco Express store at Harpenden in Hertfordshire after their cars broke down because of contaminated fuel. An Esso spokesman said: "Unfortunately on September 10, around 30 customers purchased contaminated fuel following a delivery error which resulted in diesel being placed into one of the unleaded 95 storage tanks."
Armed robber jailed
An armed robber who attempted to steal from Manor Green Service Station, Marple Road, Offerton, has been jailed for five years, six months. Dale Burgess pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery and handling stolen goods.
Smuggled alcohol haul
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has seized more than 100,000 litres of illicit alcohol and disrupted alcohol-related criminal gangs. More than 250 HMRC officers took part in the operation targeting alcohol smuggling at UK ports (Dover, Tilbury and Purfleet) and inland at 23 locations including alcohol retailers, haulier truck stops, industrial units and warehouses across England.
Coryton to be flattened
A contractor has been appointed to demolish the redundant refinery and boiler house at the former BP refinery at Coryton. The former refinery’s tanks, jetties and loading racks are being converted into a deep water import and blending terminal at neighbouring Thames Oilport, and will not be demolished.
