Dorset-based Peregrine Retail has completed on the purchase of a third forecourt – Blackhorse Garage, just off Bristol ring road.
The Esso-branded site, which has been run by the former owner for 40 years, is located on a busy roundabout with plenty of passing trade and local traffic.
John Mason, managing director of Peregrine, said: “The site has a big stack of potential for improvement. The shop is unbranded – it just has an Esso red fascia – and a limited range but it’s in a very good location with not much surrounding competition. In that location it should do tremendously well, especially considering what it’s doing now.”
The forecourt’s current fuel volume is 7mlpa, with shop turnover standing at £30,000 a week, but John is planning an immediate minor refit while he puts in a planning application for a larger redevelopment. The shop is now 900sq ft with potential to be extended to almost 3,000sq ft.
“We need to do a quick fix because the shop could do with a lot more refrigeration – most of the soft drinks are ambient on shelf at the moment,” said John. “We will put on the Londis fascia first and move to Budgens once the shop is bigger.”
