Merseyside Police detectives have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an attempted robbery at a petrol station on Tuesday, February 18.

Officers were called to Childwall Valley Filling Station in Childwall Valley Road at around 10pm after receiving reports that a man had vaulted over the counter and threatened a member of staff with what is thought to have been a penknife to open the till.

The offender was challenged by staff and left the petrol station empty handed. The staff member was not injured in the incident but he was left shaken.

The offender is described as a white man, around 5ft 9in tall, of slim to medium build with a Liverpool accent and was wearing black clothing.

Detective constable Craig Doyle said: “This was a distressing incident for the staff member, who together with other colleagues, acted courageously to thwart this offender’s actions.

“Merseyside Police takes incidents of this nature extremely seriously and are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to come forward in case they can help the investigation.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV in case he can help our enquiries.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5364, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
