Hertfordshire Police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak with as part of investigations into multiple fuel thefts worth around £1,000 from Sainsbury’s petrol stations.
Between April and October this year there have been nine offences at London Colney and three in Stevenage. On each occasion the offender has driven up to the pump and filled up the car before filling petrol cans on the back seat.
Assistant investigator Becky Ouston said: “We believe the offences have been carried out by the same person and are occurring mainly between 10am and 3pm. On each occasion the offender fills the vehicle with the maximum amount of fuel before filling petrol cans and in total around £1,000 of fuel has been taken.”
Between April and July the car involved was a blue Citreon Picasso but more recently a white Ford Transit or white VW Caddy van has been used.
She added: “I would like to speak with the man pictured as he may have information which could assist my investigation. If you can help to identify him then please call me.
“I would also like to issue a warning to the offender that by carrying cans of fuel in this way he could be putting himself and others in danger should he be involved in a crash.”
Anyone with information should contact Hertfordshire Police on 101 Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
