Sewell Group, which owns Hull-based independent retailer Sewell Retail, has

been named the eighth best company to work for in the UK. The company scopped the award at the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies 2010 event, beating the likes of Microsoft and Kellog UK.

The company moved up from 45th place on last year’s list.

It was also ranked the third best place to work in the UK for employee wellbeing, eighth for personal growth, and 13th for leadership (defined as how employees felt about the head of the company and its senior managers).

The prestigious Sunday Times awards are judged based on the views of employees who can provide feedback in terms of the company’s leadership, management and how personal growth, wellbeing, teamwork and remuneration are handled.

Sewell Retail, established 20 years ago, won the Forecourt Trader of the Year Award in 2009. It is also number 20 in the Top 50 Indies list 2010.
