With by-elections looming, now is the time for prospective members of Parliament, regardless of party, to firmly pledge their support to the FairFuelUK campaign, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has said.
RHA chief executive Geoff Dunning said: “November 15 could be a critical day in the Parliamentary year. Cardiff, Corby and Central Manchester have by-elections pending for that day, and this is a tremendous opportunity for thousands of voters to make their voice heard.”
The extortionate levels of fuel duty paid in the UK is of vital importance to all road users, irrespective of party, Dunning added. “Only by seeing the issue acknowledged and tackled can we move forward into 2013 with some degree of optimism – something that has been sadly lacking in recent years.
“The long-term prosperity of UK plc is dependent on a robust and viable road haulage industry. Only by pledging their support to a system of fuel duty charging that is fair to all, can the electoral candidates assure themselves, their prospective constituents and the rest of the UK a bright, economically secure future.”
