Staffordshire Police have arrested two men in Burton on suspicion of stealing more than 11,500 litres of diesel.
The police force reported that the arrests were the result of an intelligence-led operation concerning thefts of diesel from sites in the town.
On 24 October, 2,064 litres of diesel fuel was reported missing from the depot fuel tanks of a property on Millers Lane in Burton.
The theft occurred between 1.30am and 3.30am. Two males were spotted with a hosepipe in the area, prior to the discovery of the theft.
In the early hours of 13, 19 and 25 October, thefts took place at a premises on Wetmore Road. A total of 6,000 litres was stolen during these three incidents.
On 25 October another 3,486 litres went missing from a premises on Millers Lane. Again two males were seen in the area as was a white van.
Chief inspector Steve Maskrey said: “My officers launched an intelligence-led operation as a result of the recent repeated fuel thefts.
“Last night they successfully intercepted a white Citroen van on Electric Street in Burton. Two males were arrested on suspicion of fuel theft.
“Enquires continue into the recent spate of thefts and I urge anyone with information that may assist them to come forward.”
