With the motor vehicle industry in transition, particularly with the fast-pace development of electric vehicle technology, the Fuelling the Future: On the Road to Zero session at The Forecourt Show should be attended by all forecourt retailer visitors to the event.

Taking place at the Retailer Hub on Tuesday, April 9 from 1.15pm to 3pm, the main focus of the session will be the transition to alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) and how the fuel retailing industry is getting ready for this. An expert panel will look at the challenges and opportunities this all presents, including the all-important safety aspects.

Fuelling the Future will be hosted by motoring journalist and transport campaigner Quentin Willson. He will set the scene then introduce each of the other panellists. These include:

Brian Madderson: who has been chairman of the PRA since 2009.

Dave Newton: chief operating officer of BP Chargemaster. Newton has worked in forecourt retailing for over 20 years including a spell as the MD of BP’s company-owned forecourt business in the UK. More recently, he has led the development of BP’s global strategy in electrification and played an instrumental part in the acquisition of Chargemaster by BP in 2018.

Michelle Machesney: business development director of EV Solutions at TSG UK.

Machesney joined Fairbanks Environment in 2003 and worked her way through various roles. When Tokheim bought Fairbanks, she joined the Tokheim side of the business as business development director. Machesney has also recently become the chair of the PEIMF.

Charles Purkess: business development manager at ITM Power. Purkess joined the company in 2008, after 12 years as an environmental liability consultant having previously worked in the oil and gas industry. He has been involved in a number of hydrogen transport infrastructure evaluation and rollout projects in Europe.

Clare Scawthorn: petroleum manager of the London Fire Brigade. Scawthorn heads up a team of inspectors working across London making sure the petroleum forecourt infrastructure is safe. She is currently the deputy chair of the Petroleum Enforcement Liaison Group, Council Member for the APEA and represents the London Fire Brigade at national committees, including the National Fire Chiefs Council Petroleum & Explosives working group.
