Gridserve has announced the introduction of ABB E-mobility’s new A400 charger on the Electric Highway.
Making its debut at Gridserve’s latest EV charging station at Centaurus Park in Bristol, located one mile from Junction 17 of the M5, ABB E-mobility’s A400 charger has been designed to tackle three of the biggest challenges in EV charging today: reliability, simplicity and operational efficiency.
It features a 32-inch touchscreen interface, helping to guide drivers through each step of the EV charging process – from plugging in to payment – and has been engineered to achieve an industry-leading uptime and charging success rate in line with the requirements of the UK Public Charging Point Regulation (UK PCPR).
The ABB A400 also delivers 400kW of ultra-rapid charging power, which is enough for the latest EVs to add more than 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes. Furthermore, two CCS charging ports allow two vehicles to charge simultaneously, while dynamic power sharing means that the full 400kW can be modulated between both vehicles depending on their charging needs.
Rebecca Trebble, chief customer officer at Gridserve, says: “Our goal has always been to make EV charging easy and as dependable as filling up your car with petrol or diesel. By partnering with ABB E-mobility to introduce the A400, we’re setting a new benchmark for performance and reliability, both for the Gridserve Electric Highway and for the UK. This technology allows us to deliver faster charging and an even smoother customer experience at scale.”
Bruno Bourguet, head of Europe region and channels at ABB E-mobility, says: “The A400 has been built from the ground up to bring reliability, scalability and performance to EV charging. With its intuitive design, including an award-winning user experience and interface, it sets a new benchmark for easy-to-use and easy-to-operate charging.”
