MFG wants to confirm the legality of its Solihull site trading around the clock

MFG is seeking confirmation that its Morrisons petrol station in Chester Road, Solihull, can trade around the clock.

The site was previously a Safeway – until Morrisons bought Safeway back in 2004. Then, of course, MFG bought Morrisons’ forecourts last year.

The Solihull petrol filling station has been trading for 24 hours a day for some years, but last year MFG submitted an application to Solihull Council planners to confirm the legality of doing so. The document it requires is a Lawful Development Certificate for an existing use or operation or activity, in this case that means 24-hour trading.

The application form says the grounds for the application are that the 24-hour use has been “established by numerous undocumented historic applications”.

When asked why the certificate was needed MFG, adds: “Planning permission relevant to the development of the site for the existing use as a petrol filling station includes no planning conditions which would restrict the hours of operation on the site.”

A consultation is now underway with a closing date of November 11. Solihull Council will inform relevant parties about the application via site notices, advertising in local media and by writing to neighbours.
