A forecourt cashier fought off a robber who threatened to stab him during a raid.
In an article in the North Wales Daily Post, the owner of the Smithy View Garage in Wrexham, Charles Dodman, praised the outstanding bravery of his employee – 76-year-old Bob Marton – who was subjected to a “terrifying ordeal”.
Charles said the raid began just before 2.20pm lasts Sunday: “A man in his late teens or early 20s came in and demanded Bob hand over the till. He threatened to stab Bob several times if he didn’t.
”The man then made a grab for the till but Bob tried to fight him off. The raider ran off with the till, which contained more than £200.
North Wales Police were quick to respond and the Force helicopter was scrambled.
Charles said two men were arrested shortly afterwards and the till was also recovered.
“Bob was very, very brave. I’ve seen the footage on CCTV. It was a terrifying ordeal. Bob really probably shouldn’t have done what he did: it was amazing bravery for a 76-year-old man.
“The police were also fantastic and were at the scene very quickly and managed to make arrests. We are very grateful.”
