The firm’s new Greenock site has capacity to expand

Fastned, the Dutch EV charging company, has opened a new hub to the west of Glasgow.

The Greenock site begins with four charging bays, and while this is technically two too few to have the location classified as a ‘hub’, the firm says there is scope to expand to eight bays.

However many cars can recharge at the location, Fastned says the electricity used to supply the chargers comes from 100% renewable sources, while the charging units are capable of delivering power at up to 400 kiloWatts, and the hub’s canopy roof features solar panels.

The Greenock site marks Fastned’s 33rd location in the UK, and while the company has not always found things to be plan sailing, recently having planning permission for a large Oxfordshire hub refused, its focus on constructing architecturally sensitive hubs, and the firm’s distinctive branding, are helping it gain traction amongst EV drivers.

Tom Hurst, the company’s UK country director, said the firm is “delighted” to open what constitutes its fifth charging hub in Scotland, while promising there’s “much more to come”.
