Gulf sponsors forecourt awards

Gulf Retail has been signed as the principal sponsor of the 2018 Forecourt Trader Awards, the most prestigious event in the UK petrol retailing calendar. The awards aim to drive standards in petrol and convenience retailing, by acknowledging and rewarding the skills and achievements in the sector and all those who contribute to it. The Forecourt Trader Awards will take place on September 13 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

jet’s scratchcard winner

A Jet forecourt in Hull has been hitting headlines after selling a winning National Lottery scratchcard. Local taxi driver Melissa Ede won £4m on a scratchcard purchased at Jet Sutton Road Service Station in Hull on December 30. Site owner, Solly Patel said: "Our customers are very excited that such a high-value winning scratchcard was bought here and it’s definitely helped to boost sales."

EV charging points in new houses

A Scottish house builder has committed to installing cabling for electric car charging points in all new-build homes. Springfield Properties said the move would make it one of the first firms in the UK to include infrastructure for vehicle charging as a standard feature. It says it will incorporate 7KW cabling at the most practical point in each home to allow homebuyers to install a home charge point.

MRH redevelops jersey site

MRH has struck a deal to redevelop and operate a forecourt site in Jersey. Acting through its subsidiary, Roberts Garages, it has agreed a 25-year lease with Ports of Jersey for the airport site in St Peter. Subject to planning approval, MRH plans to turn the existing 50,000sq ft site into a multi-point fuel station, store, car-wash and auto centre.

paper £10 note on way out

The Bank of England is urging businesses to ensure they are prepared for the withdrawal of the old paper £10 note. The legal tender status of the paper £10 note featuring Charles Darwin will be withdrawn at 11:59pm on Thursday March 1, 2018. From then on businesses and the public no longer have to accept the paper note. The replacement £10 polymer note features Jane Austen.
