A Kent retailer has bulk-bought salt and is making use of his forklift truck to clear snow from the forecourt and road leading up to it to ensure motorists can safely fill up.

Simon Privett, who runs Tolgate Service Station in Gravesend, does this every year but said this year is the worst he’s ever seen.

"We’ve had it bad before but not like this," the Spar retailer told Forecourt Trader. "I’m fighting a losing battle because the snow just keeps coming down.

"I go out two or three times a day. I clear one end and then move to the other but by the time that’s finished I need to clear the other end again."
