Motorway services operator Moto has opened what it says is the country’s largest EV charging hub, with the Exeter facility featuring 100 ultra-rapid bays.
The hub dwarfs the previous record holder, Instavolt, whose Winchester ‘Superhub’ hosts 44 charging bays, with Moto naming its latest venture, which sits off J30 on the M5 the ‘Mega Hub’.
The Mega Hub has been built as part of a £500m investment being rolled out across Moto’s estate, a package the firm was able to commit to after signing 75-year lease renewals with the government for 10 of its services.
The Exeter charging hub previously featured 32 Tesla and 44 Gridserve bays, with Moto adding 24 spaces under its Moto Charge sub-brand. The Bedfordshire-based company, which evolved from roadside firms Granada and Compass in 2021, is targeting 4,000 charging spots across its estate of 70 sites.
Ken McMeikan, the firm’s chief executive, comments: ”The creation of our new Mega Hub at Exeter with 24 Moto Charge ultra-rapid EV charging bays is an absolutely huge milestone that will leave motorists in no doubt of Moto’s ambition to provide the EV charging facilities that customers need and deserve.”
