Shell & Paypal have announced the roll out of their new Fill Up & Go mobile payment service following a successful pilot with invited members of the Shell Drivers Club.
The new service, which enables mobile payments at the pump, will now be available at hundreds of Shell service stations nationwide. Customers will be able to pay quickly and securely using the Shell Motorist app – a free download on any Android or iOS device - registering their PayPal details and then checking the station finder for details of which stations have the service available
Fill Up & Go was created in response to motorists’ desire for a more convenient payment experience, according to Shell’s retail marketing manager Michael Hominick. "We’re committed to providing a fast, safe and secure service,” he said. “We’ve listened to our customers and know they will benefit from this innovation. They will have the flexibility and convenience of paying without having to leave their car. Those who want to go in store and pay or purchase other items will still be able to, with the benefit of reduced queues."
He said once the customer arrives at the pump, the process is very simple: staying in the car, they open the app, choose a payment value, scan the QR code by the pump and when the message "start refuelling" appears, they simply leave the phone in the car and refuel as normal. There is nothing else for them to do before getting back on their way. A transaction history and receipt are available in the app and Shell Drivers’ Club loyalty points are awarded and are visible in the app too.
