An independent forecourt operator on the outskirts of Kilmarnock has taken to social media to tackle accusations from customers that their cars have broken down after filling up at the station.
Burnpark Services says it is “aware of recent social media posts regarding the quality of fuel”, and takes the matter “extremely seriously”.
One social-media user says their car “lost power and broke down” after filling up with super unleaded at Burnpark, and that it had to be “towed to a garage and the fuel drained and replaced with clean fuel”.
The operator says “complaints appear to relate only to the super unleaded fuel”, and that “regular unleaded and diesel supplies are unaffected”.
An initial water-contamination test and supply-chain review have indicated no issues, but Trading Standards has taken samples of fuel away for analysis, while the site’s super unleaded pump has been taken out of service “as a precaution”.
The operator adds, though, that “a number of these claims are being repeatedly circulated by the same individuals across multiple posts. While we respect the right to raise concerns, we emphasise the importance of relying on verified evidence rather than repeated, unsubstantiated assertions.”
Burnpark says it remains “fully confident in the quality of our fuel”, and “will continue to uphold the highest standards while monitoring the situation closely.”
