Motorway services operator Welcome Break has chosen Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) as its new GB charity partner, while in Northern Ireland the firm will work with Inspire.
At the start of the year Welcome Break announced it was on the lookout for a new charitable partner, having worked with Macmillan cancer Support (in GB) and Friends of the Cancer Centre (NI) since setting up its charitable fund in 2023, raising over £1m combined for those two organisations.
The firm has now selected CALM, which focusses on suicide prevention, for its GB partner, and Inspire in Northern Ireland, with that organisation working with people living with mental ill health, intellectual disability, autism and addictions. The new charity partnerships begin on January 1, 2027.
Nicola Marshall, people director and chair of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund comments: “Our service areas and hotels give us a unique opportunity to reach people on their journeys. Whether that’s an HGV driver taking a break, a family travelling across the country or someone simply stopping at one of our sites, we want people to know that help is available and that they are not alone.”
Simon Gunning, CALM’s chief executive says the partnership with Welcome Break “gives us the opportunity to meet millions of people right in the middle of their everyday journeys – providing real, practical tools when things feel too heavy”.
Inspire’s chief executive, Kerry Anthony, says Welcome Break is “making a proactive investment in local people, helping to fund our essential community mental health and wellbeing services that provide life-changing support across Northern Ireland”.
