Ely Service Station on the A10 in Cambridgeshire, and Harvest Energy’s Bury Hill forecourt in Warley, West Midlands, have recently fitted tall hose diesel dispensers on their HGV lanes – recognising the equipment’s potential for reduced maintenance and a longer-life.
Because the hoses are fitted to a mast, rather than curled around a holster, they are held off the ground, avoiding damage from kinks, wear and contamination from the floor.
Fuel dispensing equipment supplier Eurotank is offering tall hose Mepsan Cosmic HGV pumps as standard, and is urging other operators to consider the £150 per pump upgrade when improving facilities for truck drivers.
Because the tall hose dispensers are designed specifically for HGVs and other large vehicles, the masts raise the nozzle entry point to reduce the hazard of the hose stretching, and making them comfortable to use, says Eurotank’s group sales director Jack Aplin.
“High hose masts prevent hoses from being left trailing and potentially getting damaged, but still allow for a long reach,” says Aplin.
The project at Ely Service Station, a former Applegreen-owned forecourt now in the EG On The Move estate, involved Eurotank removing the old pumps, breaking out two pump islands, and installing new cradles to fit the pumps.
Pipework modifications were made and the two new Mepsan Cosmic single-hose dispensers were installed.
Eurotank had previously installed a Mepsan Smartline four-hose pump on the main forecourt back in 2022.
