Research commissioned by Mars Ice Cream has revealed that the trend for entertaining friends and family at home continues to thrive, with a third of UK consumers stating that they entertain at home more than they did 10 years ago.

Three quarters (71%) of consumers plan to entertain friends and family at home during the next month. And one in three (37%) 18-34 years, are planning to entertain at home weekly over the next six months.

Seventy five per cent of respondents would offer ice cream as a dessert to their guests. One in three said that they always keep ice cream at home for impromptu entertaining – second only to crisps, nuts, dips and cheese.

When it comes to ice cream for entertaining, 68% of hosts opt for ice cream sharing tubs, with one in three (36%) preferring to serve ice cream on a stick and one in five (22%) an ice cream bar.

When it comes to selecting ice cream to share with friends and family, 70% look for great taste, followed by great quality (51%), value for money (38%) and recognised brands (24%).

Michelle Frost, general manager at Mars Ice Cream, said: “It’s great to see that ice cream continues to dominate as a top choice for Big Nights In and home entertaining. The survey also revealed that two thirds of respondents always keep ice cream in the freezer, demonstrating its place as a household staple.”

The research for Mars Ice Cream was carried out by Mortar London in May 2018, with a sample of 2,000 UK adults.
