Detectives from Hertfordshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an armed robbery at a petrol station garage in Harpenden during the early hours of Thursday 24 November.

A man dressed in dark clothing, holding what is believed to have been a firearm, demanded cash from staff working at the BP garage in Luton Road just after 4am.

A quantity of cash was then stolen.

Detective sergeant Adam Haines from the Local Crime Unit said: “Fortunately the staff were uninjured during the robbery but are understandably very shaken by the threat of violence.

“We are doing extensive enquiries today to find the person responsible, which includes utilising the police helicopter, armed response unit and specially trained dogs. We will also be doing house to house enquiries in the local area to see if anyone saw or heard anything suspicious prior to the robbery and especially between 3.30am and 4.30am this morning. I’d also like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or doorbell cam footage, any dash cam footage around the BP garage in that timeframe or any information about who may be responsible.”

Neighbourhood inspector Andy Wiseman said: “This is a very unusual incident and while residents will be rightly concerned, please be reassured that we have a large police presence in Luton Road and we are doing everything we can to track down the offender.”

Anyone with any information which could help the investigation is asked to email Adam Haines.
