Bakery 79 range soon to be extended with iced coffee and fruit coolers

Park Garage Group has ambitious plans for its fledgling Bakery 79 food to go alternative to Greggs, with a loyalty app and Deliveroo deliveries in the pipeline.

The 80 site forecourt business hopes to increase the number of its forecourts taking the concept from 12 to 20 by the end of the year. Next year it also plans to franchise out the seventies-inspired brown and orange brand to other petrol retailers.

The Deliveroo partnership will run alongside similar arrangements with Just Eat and Uber Eats in all stores with Bakery 79, where possible, by next week.

Currently Bakery 79, which was introduced in February with a nod to the year the Croydon-based business was founded, includes savoury and sweet pastries, donuts, food bowls, wraps, and coffee. Hot food lines include potato wedges and southern fried chicken goujons.

The range is being developed to include an extended line-up of pastry bakes, and a sugar and jam donut – one of Greggs’ top sellers.

Also, PGG is looking into introducing iced coffee and fruit coolers, freshly made with ice cube machines on site.

At the official launch of Bakery 79 last week, PGG announced World Child Cancer as its official charity partner, in a long-term commitment to supporting children living with cancer around the world.

For every branded Bakery 79 donut sold, a donation will be made to World Child Cancer.

PGG ran three days of family-friendly activities at Bakery 79 locations across the UK, including cookie decorating, spin-to-win games, and giveaways.

Director Manoj Tandon says that future sites taking Bakery 79 will have a choice of formats. “There will be different concepts in stores where they do not have the space for a full bakery,” he says. This will include a micro, and mini set-up, he adds.

Tandon has been pleased with how customers have accepted the transition to Bakery 79.

“Feedback has been really positive with customers loving the concept and branding,” says Tandon. “This is the most pleasing.”

He adds: “The biggest surprise is how quick we have been able to turn these around, we are still in development so there is more to come!”
