Roadchef

Roadchef’s fundraising programme for Cancer Research UK has reached £4 million since the start of its partnership in 2018.

The motorway services operator, which has already hit its fundraising target for 2022, aims to raise a further £1 million for the charity next year, taking its five-year total to £5 million.

Staff and customers have played a huge role in contributing to the running total, with a number of significant events and initiatives taking place over the past year in particular. Recently staff from the company’s sites all over the country donned their walking boots and took part in one of the biggest team challenges Roadchef has ever seen – over 100 team members walked distances averaging around 20 miles from Cancer Research UK shops in their local towns back to the nearest Roadchef sites, raising over £15,000 in the process.

The company says there are many other stories of great selflessness, courage and generosity, including staff shaving their heads, taking part in the London Marathon, organising sponsored golf tournaments, cycles and more, all of which contributed to the hugely successful fundraising campaign for Cancer Research UK this year.

Jo Moss, Partnerships account manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “We are absolutely blown away by the amount that has been raised by the incredible staff and customers at Roadchef over the past four years. We are consistently humbled by the generosity of all those who pledge time to help us raise money for life-saving research to beat cancer. We would like to thank every team member and customer at Roadchef that has been involved in this campaign over the past four years, and we can’t wait to see what 2023 brings.”

Mike Jackson, head of Charity at Roadchef, added: “We are incredibly proud of all the team members at Roadchef who have worked so hard to achieve this incredible goal for Cancer Research UK. So many people have taken part in different activities and initiatives to raise vital funds for the charity over the years and we are so very grateful to each and every one of them.

“Our charity partnership with Cancer Research UK is incredibly important to us – not simply to raise money for the organisation but because we believe it allows us to better support our employees own health and wellbeing. We empower our team members to take positive action when it comes to their health and if this initiative can help even a few of our valued staff better understand how to make healthy changes to reduce their risk of cancer, and be more body aware, then it’s an invaluable exercise from that perspective too.”

In recognition of the tireless work it does for Cancer Research UK, Roadchef was crowned Corporate National Partnership Champion at the Charity Times Awards 2022. Shortlisted against five other organisations, all doing extraordinary work for their charity partners, Roadchef took home the top award for its unwavering commitment to the organisation over the past four years.
