The owners of a carwash in Pelsall, a village to the north of Walsall, West Midlands, have submitted a planning application to convert their existing business into a petrol station, which the site previously played host to.
Historic map imagery shows the former filling station has operated as a valeting business of one sort or another since at least 2009. Approval to reestablish the site as a petrol station had been granted in 2018, but the permission subsequently lapsed.
Now, the site’s current owner, Raceway Fuels, is seeking to reinstate the garage, knocking down all existing structures and replacing them with a modern forecourt, complete with a 2,000sq ft glass-fronted convenience store, and three pump islands served by two 75,000-litre tanks.
Also include in the plans is a two-bay jet-wash facility, along with parking for nine cars and a pair of EV bays served by an Alpitronic charger.
Raceway’s planning firm says the site is currently “of poor quality in respect of its visual appearance and in need of upgrade”, that the proposed development will create 15 jobs, and “is regenerative in nature”.
