Esso has created a new virtual reality (VR) race experience to celebrate its technology partnership with the McLaren Honda Formula 1 team.
Building on the 2015 #FuelYourSenses campaign, this immersive VR experience, available via the Esso website, features five current and former McLaren grand prix drivers in a karting race, bringing grassroots racing to fans.
The 360° VR experience includes two-time world champion Mika Häkkinen and Channel 4 motorsports commentator and former race-winner David Coulthard, competing against current grand prix drivers Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne at Fernando Alonso’s karting academy in his home town of Oviedo, Spain.
The Fuel Your Senses: Race of Legends VR experience, commentated by motorsports presenter David Croft, allows fans to experience a race through the eyes of their favourite driver.
Jenson Button, 2009 Formula One World Champion and current McLaren Honda driver, said: “Karting has been such a huge part of my life from a very young age and my Formula One career would not have been the same without it. Being part of Esso’s Fuel Your Senses: Race of Legends experience took me back to those days and gives fans just a taste of how exciting karting is and its place in developing young talent.”
