The Subway brand and Euro Garages have announced plans to open a further 69 outlets across the group’s existing 120-site forecourt estate by 2016. The companies say the expansion drive will create around 700 new jobs - especially in areas of high unemployment. The new stores will bring the total number of Euro Garages sites with a Subway store to 100.
Euro Garages already owns and operates over 30 Subway stores across the UK and has seen significant success with the brand. Having successfully acquired 45 forecourt sites from Esso back in January, Euro Garages will also target these locations as part of its on-going expansion plans across the North East, Yorkshire and the North West.
The Subway brand claims to be the world’s largest specialist sandwich provider, with development in off high street locations is one of its major strategic focuses. It currently has more than 300 Subway stores open or in development in non-traditional locations, such as on forecourt sites or within convenience stores.
Trevor Haynes, area development manager, Subway UK and Ireland, commented: “The forecourt and convenience sector is a key area of growth for the Subway brand. The simple operations that are involved in running a Subway franchise and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for these style locations.
“We have had a very long and successful relationship with Euro Garages and are looking to build on this with future store roll-outs. Working with companies such as Euro Garages, the Subway brand can take a collaborative approach that delivers a flexible business model, real partner benefits, including increased footfall, on-going marketing support, sustainable sales and excellent business growth opportunities.”
Ilyas Munshi, commercial director, Euro Garages, said: “We already own and operate a considerable number of Subway stores across our existing estate and our investment in the brand has been a huge success. We are committed to working with the Subway brand to complete the necessary site investment, excited about the job creation opportunities and providing training and skills development as well as providing customers food that is great-tasting and made the way they want it – real choice!”
The Euro Garages announcement follows the recent statement that the Subway brand in partnership with Ireland-based independent forecourt retailer, Applegreen, is to launch further stores across the UK and Ireland.
