The average cost of a litre of unleaded has risen 6.5p since the start of July, with diesel up 9p, as the Iranian conflict continues to cause elevated pump prices.
The average price for unleaded currently stands at 158.53p and diesel is 176.73p, while earlier in the week the cost of a barrel of oil breached the $100 barrier for the first time in two months.
The data comes from breakdown firm the RAC, whose head of policy, Simon Williams, warns the outlook remains “grim”, with the on-again-off-again opening of the Strait of Hormuz continuing to impact global oil markets.
Williams adds: “A short-term pause in hostilities between the countries is unlikely to be enough to quell the oil price.
“What’s needed is a sustained drop over several weeks and, unless that happens, elevated prices at the pump look like they’re here to stay.”
