The average cost of a litre of diesel in the UK fell by almost 17p in June, from 183.75p at the start of the month to 167.14p at the end, as falling oil prices filtered through to forecourts.
The price of a barrel of oil dropped by over $20 over the same period and stood at $73 at the end of the month, down from well over $100 at the peak of the Iranian conflict.
Unleaded fell by 8ppl last month, too, from an average of 159.37p at the start of the month to 151.4p at the end.
Supermarket and motorway unleaded both fell by 8p on average, while supermarket diesel dropped by 19ppl – though motorway service area (MSA) diesel only reduced in price by 14ppl over June.
Simon Williams of breakdown and insurance firm the RAC, which compiled the figures, says “the price of oil has fallen dramatically and prices at the pumps have reflected that.”
Williams adds: “We hope the transparency the government’s Fuel Finder scheme brings with retailers obligated to report their prices within half an hour of changing has helped with June’s price reductions.”
