Unitas Wholesale has appointed Gurms Athwal as its new trading director.
Athwal, who has a quarter of a century’s experience in wholesale, spent the last four years as Parfetts’ trading director, and was also recently a non-executive director on Unitas’ board.
Announcing the appointment, Unitas Wholesale’s managing director, John Kinney, said he was “delighted” to have Athwal join the team, adding that his “wealth of experience, strategic thinking, and proven ability to deliver commercial value will be a tremendous asset to our members”.
Kinney added that Athwal has “a strong track record of negotiating commercial terms and promotional programmes that deliver tangible results”, and that his appointment will strengthen Unitas’ commitment to “driving incremental growth through deeper supplier engagement”.
Athwal himself said he was “honoured” to become trading director, having been “connected to Unitas for the majority of my career”. He added that he looks forward to “building on the excellent work already underway and driving further value for our members”.
