Optimu Prime will be guarding a second roll-over wash if planning consent is granted

The operator of sci-fi themed forecourt Inner Space Station in York is planning to improve its award-winning valeting offering with a new facility.

The site, which won Forecourt Trader’s Best Valeting Facilities gong in our 2020 awards, already features four jet wash bays and one roll-over automatic machine, and now owner Graham Kennedy is looking to install a second roll-over.

Planning documents submitted to City of York Council reveals Kennedy is proposing to knock down the garage of a house which he owns and which sits adjacent to the current automatic machine, and install a second one its place.

If approved by the local authority the project will also see two existing plant rooms removed and consolidated into one, while the new wash will feature shutter doors, which will also be retrofitted to the existing one, reducing noise. A 2.4-metre acoustic fence will be erected alongside the washes’ boundary, too.

Inner Space Station is one of the more well-known forecourts in the north of England thanks to its science fiction theme, with models of Dr Who villains the Daleks, and a Cyberman stand on the site’s shop roof.

The current roll-over car wash, meanwhile, is dubbed the ‘Transformer’ wash, and is guarded by the characters Bumblebee and Optimus Prime from that series, with a Dr Who Tardis thrown in for good measure.
