A 24-year-old man has been given a suspended sentence following an incident at a Lancashire petrol station that saw him racially abuse a forecourt worker and spit in the face of two police officers.
Jordan Longworth of Horwich, Greater Manchester, was one of three men fighting near the Essar forecourt in Chorley, Lancashire, after a car crashed into the site.
While two of the men left the scene as police arrived Longworth was spoken to by officers then also fled, before returning to the scene, at which point he resisted arrest.
When in the back of the police van he spat in the face of two police officers, elbowed one in the face, shouted racial abuse at a member of forecourt staff and continued to use “racial language”.
Longworth pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and two instances of assaulting a police officer.
Preston Magistrates Court sentenced him to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete a four month alcohol treatment programme and pay compensation of £200.
