Car wash to right of shop will be demolished and two pump islands removed (site has switched to Esso since image was taken)

The apparently unstoppable demand for food-to-go has led MFG to take drastic action, with the firm recently granted planning permission to remove two pump islands and a car wash in order to expand the shop of a forecourt in West Yorkshire.

The Esso liveried site, in Sowerby Bridge near Halifax, currently comprises a ‘domino six’ layout, with a small kiosk facing half a dozen pump islands, while a rollover car wash described as “outdated” in planning documents abuts the shop.

In June last year MFG applied to Calderdal Council seeking permission to remove two of those pump islands, reduce the size of the forecourt canopy and demolish the car wash, freeing up space and allowing the firm to add eight customer parking bays in front of the shop, which will be extended by 720sq ft. Two jet-wash bays will be retained at the site.

The shop extension will effectively comprise a small cafe with a kitchen, and a customer area featuring a cake display, hot food unit and condiment stand. The project will create five full-time and five part-time jobs, and be open from 6am to 11pm.
