Euro Garages parent EG Group has announced the completion of its acquisition of 762 c-stores in the US from Kroger Co. The acquisition, which includes 66 franchise operations, operates in 18 states and employs 11,000 people under the following fascias: Turkey Hill, Loaf ’N Jug, Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb and Quik Stop. EG Group will establish its North American headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Electric charging company InstaVolt is making its stations completely free to use during this month to celebrate its 100th charger going live and there’s no limit on the number of times drivers of EVs can charge. InstaVolt switched on its 100th unit at a site owned by Cornwall Garages in Epping. It is aiming to have 3,000 in the ground by the end of 2021.
zero emission combustion engine
A truck with a combustion engine powered by hydrogen fuel will take to the roads later this year. Developed by hydrogen fuel pioneer ULEMCo, the converted Volvo FH16 will use what is believed to be the first zero emission combustion engine in the world. The 100% hydrogen combustion truck, with Mega Low Emissions (MLE), is designed to demonstrate how hydrogen fuel can be deployed to decarbonise HGV efficiently and cost effectively.
petrol cars overtake diesels
For the first year since monitoring began, petrol cars became the most sold vehicles in the EU in 2017, constituting almost 53% of sales, according to provisional data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Diesel cars made up 45% of the new registrations. Compared to 2016, the registrations of diesel cars decreased in all EU member states except Italy and Denmark.
volvo’s electric target
Volvo Cars has set a target for fully electric cars to make up 50% of its sales by 2025, the company announced at the Beijing Auto Show. This builds on its 2017 announcement that all new models from 2019 will be available as either a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicle.
