The village forecourt is 17 miles to the east of Plymouth, and 15 miles to the west of Torquay

A Devon forecourt has been sold for the first time, having previously been under the same ownership for 89 years.

The Cousins Bros filling station and associated MOT and servicing centre in Avonwick between Plymouth and Torquay has been sold by Jan and John Cousins, who said deciding to move on was “a really tough decision”.

The business was started by John’s father in 1936, with he and Jan taking it over in 1968. After over half a century in the business, Jan and John said “it is very much time to retire”. The pair thanked their customers and wished the new owners well.

The buyers, Marie and Matthew Stone, are said to be experienced MOT and servicing business owners, with Matthew having previously worked for Cousins Bros.

Mathew and Marie Stone said they “are very much looking forward to taking the business forward”, adding that the Cousins had “established a solid customer base” over the 90 years the business has been in their family.

The Stones added that the forecourt is “a fabulous site” with “lots of potential to expand”. The deal was brokered by Christie & Co.
