Project will see a new, larger shop built by the car wash. EV charging and new canopy also feature in the plans

Oil major Shell is set to dramatically reconfigure a filling station in Wareham, Dorset, submitting a planning application to demolish the site’s shop and erect a new convenience store almost twice the size, while also installing EV charging.

The new shop will sit at the opposite end of the plot to the current one, adjoining an automatic car wash that will remain in situ – though the site will lose its jet wash if the project gets the go ahead from planners.

Four EV charging bays and one extra pump island are set to be added to the site, which sits alongside the A35.

If approved by Dorset Council, the works would result in the filling station boasting a 2,766sq ft convenience store, significantly up on the 1,550sq ft outlet that currently serves the site.
